SkinnyBrace Sizes and Prices

SkinnyBraces are intended to resist earthquake forces in wood-framed buildings from two to five stories tall.  Most "soft, weak, open-front" (SWOF) buildings have one wall that needs a SkinnyBrace.  If your building has garage doors, large store-front windows, or other openings on more than one side, you may need to brace more than one wall.

The SkinnyBrace size needed will depend on the dimensions of your building, weights of existing materials, soil conditions at the site, how close the building is to known earthquake faults, local code requirements, and other factors.  Generally only one SkinnyBrace is needed to brace one wall line.  Most people are so accustomed to seeing steel frames, with one leg of the frame on either side of a garage door opening, that we often are asked "only ONE?"  Yes, you only need one--but if you want to install two, we are glad to sell them to you.

** Weights given are approximate for an 8-foot ceiling height and the narrowest available width for a given model of SkinnyBrace. Lighter SkinnyBraces are available for each model but they require more width for installation (usually an increase of 2 inches or less). Total height and weight of SkinnyBrace will depend on the Design Professional’s choice of base connection and desired column section.
